Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes

Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes are the perfect meal when you are craving a cheese steak. But only have ground beef in the fridge. It has the same cheesy goodness and amazing flavors from the onions, mushrooms, green peppers and spices, but at a fraction of the price of sliced Rib Eye steak.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lbs ground beef
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 small green pepper (diced)
  • 4 oz brown mushrooms (diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • tbsp ketchup
  • tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 6 ounces Provolone cheese slices (stacked and cut into small squares)
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef and cook until it reaches a deep brown color. While cooking break apart ground beef and stir occasionally. Then remove skillet from stove top.

  • Remove the ground beef from the skillet leaving rendered fat. Then over medium high heat melt butter and add minced garlic, diced onions, diced green peppers, and diced mushrooms. Saute for 3-4 minutes until they have softened.

  • Add Beef Back into the skillet.

  • In a small bowl whisk the beef broth an cornstarch together to make a roux.

  • Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, chili powder, beef broth/cornstarch roux into the skillet. Mix to combine well.

  • Cook and stir meat mixture until thickened. 3-5 minutes.

  • Take pan off of the heat, add the chopped provolone cheese and stir. Cover and let sit for a couple of minutes until cheese is melted. Then serve on on a toasted Brioche bun.
