Green Bean Casserole

Green bean casserole is THE traditional Thanksgiving side dish - It's the side that everyone is looking forward to digging into and would surely be missed if it wasn’t present. This classic casserole is made with a creamy mushroom sauce, green beans, cheddar cheese, and topped with crispy fried onions!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 (10.5 Oz can) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 2 (14.5 Oz cans) cut green beans (drained)
  • cups crispy fried onions (divided in half)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, salt, and cheese. Mix until well combined.
  • Add ¾ cup of crispy fried onions and green beans to the mixture. Mix until well combined and transfer to a 9 x 9 baking dish.
  • Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until bubbling.
  • Remove from oven and stir green bean mixture. Top with remaining crispy fried onions. Return to oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes.
  • Serve while hot and enjoy!

Notes

Tips
  • If you're using fresh or frozen green beans, make sure they're cooked first! Fresh green beans should be blanched until tender and frozen green beans should be steamed according to package directions.
  • If you want a more mushroom flavor into your casserole, sauté button mushrooms and add it to your casserole.
  • Using fresh onions and frying them yourself gives your casserole a more crispy texture. Soak your onions in buttermilk and then coat with crispy crumbs, herbs, and flour. Lastly, deep-fry your onions to a golden brown crisp.
