Easy Greek Chicken Gyro Recipe (with Tzatziki)

This easy Greek chicken gyro recipe with tzatziki is simple to make and is even more delicious than takeout! The chicken is soaked in a flavorful Greek marinade, the homemade Tzatziki sauce is perfectly seasoned, and it is all served together in warm pita bread for the perfect homemade Greek sandwich.

Ingredients
  

Chicken Marinade

  • 2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 2 tsp. cumin
  • 2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1 tsp. tumeric
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 14 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 cup plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. dried dill
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 cup English cucumber, peeled and diced

To Serve

  • 6 pita breads
  • chopped iceberg lettuce
  • cherry tomatoes, cut in half
  • red onion, thinly sliced
  • diced English cucumbers.

Instructions
 

  • Add chicken to a large bowl or ziplock bag. Combine marinade ingredients and pour over chicken. Stir well to coat and marinate for 1-4 hours.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine Tzatziki ingredients and stir to combine well. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
  • Once chicken has had a chance to marinate, preheat skillet or grill to medium-high and cook chicken until no longer pink and cooked through. Remove and allow to rest for 5 minutes before cutting into bite size pieces.
  • Assemble Gyros by adding Tzaki sauce, cooked chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, and cucumbers to individual pita breads. Enjoy!
