All the ingredients needed to make grilled asparagus.

How To Grill Asparagus

  • Preheat the grill to medium heat, about 375° to 400°F, and coat grates with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Rinse asparagus and trim the bottoms.
  • Place asparagus on a baking sheet or shallow bowl. Drizzle olive oil over the top of the asparagus and toss with your hands to coat. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder and toss again.
  • Lay asparagus across the grill grates. Grill for 3-4 minutes, then turn and grill for an additional 3-4 minutes. Grill the asparagus until it has char marks and is fork-tender.
  • Remove and serve immediately.

How Do You Trim Asparagus?

Trimming the asparagus is one of the most important steps in getting it ready to grill. The bottom part of the spear can be tough and is not meant to be eaten. You may have heard of the bend and snap method, but this is not the best method and wastes a lot of good asparagus. The best way is to cut the asparagus with a sharp knife.

Start by lining up the asparagus on a cutting board with all the ends facing the same way. Then, cut off the bottom of the spear, where it turns from a purplish-white to green. Typically this is about 1″-1 1/2″ up from the bottom.
