Pico De Gallo Ingredients

  • Tomatoes: Roma tomatoes are the best choice. They tend to be a little firmer and less watery than other tomatoes. Make sure to use ripe tomatoes to make the best Pico De Gallo.
  • Onion: Red and white onions are the best choice for the most flavor.
  • Jalapeno: This will add just the right amount of spice. Make sure to chop them finely and remove the seeds. If you like a lot more spice habanero and serrano peppers are a good choice.
  • Cilantro: This is the key ingredient and what gives pico its main flavor.
  • Lime Juice: Make sure to use fresh lime for the best flavor.
  • Garlic: This adds the perfect amount of flavor, but can be left out to make it more authentic.
  • Salt & Pepper: Season to your liking. These two ingredients can also be left out to make it more authentic.
All the ingredients needed to make Pico De Gallo.

How To Make Pico De Gallo

  • In a medium bowl, combine diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeno, garlic, and chopped cilantro. Stir until well combined.
  • Slice the lime in half and squeeze fresh lime juice over the top. Season with 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  • Let marinate in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours for the best flavor. Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!

How Far In Advance Can I Make It?

Homemade pico only gets better the longer it has time to marinate together. So I like to make it a day or two in advance. But you can make it up to 5 days in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Make a sure not to leave it out more than 2 hours when eating it.
