Baked Churros
Do you know anyone who can resist a warm fresh cinnamon sugar churro? I sure don’t! They are the perfect sweet treat and so fund to make. Warm delicious churros remind me of going to the fair and carnival, but let me tell you, making them at home is so easy and they taste amazing.
Baked Churro Ingredients
- Puff Pastry: Frozen puff pastry dough can be found in the freezer section of your local grocery store near the frozen fruit.
- Butter: I always use unsalted butter when baking to control the amount of salt in my recipes.
- Sugar: I use white granulated sugar for these churros, but light brown sugar can be substituted.
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a key ingredient in that yummy cinnamon and sugar coating on churros.
How to make baked churros
- Preheat oven to 450 F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place one sheet of thawed puff pastry on a cutting board *you can thaw pastry dough by placing one folded sheet in the microwave for 30 seconds, turnover and microwave for another 30 seconds*. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife cut pastry dough in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 1 inch wide strips. You should end up with 18 strips total.
- Place the strips of dough onto prepared baking sheet and place in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until the top is a nice golden brown color.
- While the churros are in the oven melt butter in a square or rectangle bowl in the microwave.
- In a small rectangle or square bowl mix sugar and cinnamon until well combined.
- Once churros are removed from the oven, let them cool slightly and then dip each churro into the melted butter, and immediately roll them through the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
- Place churros back on the sheet pan and let them dry. Enjoy!
How to store leftover churros
If you happen to have any leftovers at your home simply place them in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
