Cilantro Rice Ingredients

  • Butter: I prefer to use unsalted butter. You can substitute with salted butter or use oil.
  • White Onion: The flavor from the white onion adds so much to this rice. I recommend not using any other type of onion.
  • Cilantro: I recommend removing the stems. But if you want a stronger cilantro flavor you can use them.
  • Garlic Powder: Fresh garlic also works great. I recommend using this Minced Garlic in a jar.
  • Long Grain White Rice: Jasmine or brown rice works great too.
  • Chicken Broth: Adds so much flavor to the rice while cooking.
  • Granulated Sugar: This is what give the sweetness to the rice. You can adjust if you want to make it sweeter.
All the ingredients needed to make cilantro rice.

How To Make Cilantro Rice

  • In a medium bowl add sugar and chicken broth. Whisk until well combined and sugar has completely dissolved. Set aside.
  • In a large pot over medium heat add butter and melt. Then add onion and saute for 4-5 minutes until softened and translucent.
  • Next, add cilantro and saute for 1 minute. Add rice and saute until it is a light golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in broth mixture into rice and mix together. Bring to boil, then lower heat to low and simmer of 25-30 minutes or until rice is fully cooked.
  • Serve while hot and enjoy.

How To Store It

Rice is one of those things that you don’t want to leave out for long. It can be a breeding ground for bacteria because it is very moist. To safely store the rice you will want to let it cool to room temperature. Then, place it in an airtight container. It will stay good in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Can You Freeze It?

Yes, cooked rice will stay good in the freezer for up to 3 months. You will want to let the rice completely cool to room temperature. It should not sit out for more than 1 hour. Then place the rice in an airtight freezer bag. Before completely sealing the bag. Try remove as much air as possible before sealing.

There is no reason to let the rice thaw to reheat. You can either reheat the rice in the microwave or in a pot on the oven. For best results add 1 tsp of water to the rice while cooking. This will help add moisture back into it.
