Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply satisfying your sweet tooth cravings, this hot fudge cake recipe is sure to impress. If you’re craving chocolate or need a dessert to entertain, look no further than this hot fudge gooey pudding cake recipe.

This hot fudge pudding cake is really easy to make – it’s almost as easy as using a box cake mix, and it tastes 1,000 times better! To make this chocolate dessert, start by boiling some water. You can do this while you’re prepping the cake. In a mixing bowl, combine your dry cake ingredients – flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Next, you will add in your milk, butter, and vanilla. Whisk them all together until your cake batter is smooth, then pour into your prepared baking dish, but don’t pop it into the oven just yet. In a separate mixing bowl, mix together sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder and sprinkle it on top of the cake, then slowly pour the boiling water over the top. The next part is super important – don’t mix it in! The boiling water will sit on top of the cake. That’s exactly what you want to happen! Now your cake is ready to go into the oven. After it bakes, serve it warm with a scoop of ice cream and you have the perfect hot fudge pudding cake dessert!

What to Serve/Pair with Your Hot Fudge Pudding Cake

My favorite way to serve this gooey pudding cake is with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! If you like peanut butter, you can also melt some peanut butter and drizzle it over the top. You could do this with caramel sauce, as well. That’s the best thing about chocolate – it goes with everything! You can even add some strawberries on top for a chocolate covered strawberry type of dessert.

Popular Substitutions & Additions

To add some salty flavor into this sweet mixture, try topping with a little flaky sea salt. Add melted peanut butter or caramel sauce over the top when it is finished baking for some extra sweetness. You also can’t go wrong with a little whipped cream!

Storage & Leftovers

Store leftover hot fudge pudding cake in a sealed container. You can store it at room temperature if you plan to enjoy it in a day or two, but if it will be longer than that, you’ll want to keep it in the fridge. You can reheat this cake in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds to enjoy it warm.

FAQs

Is this like molten chocolate cake?

This is similar to a molten chocolate cake, but not quite the same. With molten chocolate cake, the hot fudge usually comes out of the middle. In this gooey pudding cake, the hot fudge is all throughout the cake!

What is a pudding cake?

A pudding cake is a cake that is extra moist and almost has a pudding texture.

Can I use a cake mix instead of making my own?

No, for this recipe to have the correct consistency and taste you’ll want to make your own, but it’s super simple, I promise!
