Caramel Corn Puff Ingredients

My mom was the one who taught me to use Corn Puffs instead of popcorn, and I have been hooked ever since! I love caramel corn but I hate that sometimes there are hard seeds in it. There it nothing worse that biting down on a piece of popcorn and finding a hard seed in it. Or getting pieces of popcorn stuck in your teeth. That’s what makes the puffs so much better. You still get that popcorn tasted with out the annoying extras that come with popcorn.

  • Corn Puffs – Corn puffs can be found on the chip isle at the grocery store. There are several different brands that make them, it will just depend on what brand your store carries.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk– Is milk that has been cooked down in order to remove some of the water from it. And you guessed it sugar is added.
  • Unsalted Butter – I prefer to use unsalted butter because the corn puffs usually have salt on them already.
  • Brown Sugar – Is sugar with molasses. Brown sugar has more of a caramel flavor.
  • Light Karo Syrup – a clear-colored syrup made by extracting sugars from cornstarch. Karo syrup is often used when making candy, caramel, frosting, and sweet sauces.
  • Vanilla – If you can make one good investment to your baking, I would suggest a good quality vanilla. You wont regret it! It will add so much flavor to all of your favorite treats.

How To Make Caramel Corn Puffs

Don’t be intimidated when making caramel, it really is super simple. Just follow these easy steps and you will be set! The most important part is making sure that you bring the caramel to a boil. It will get rid on that grainy texture that sugar has and make it smooth and delicious.

  1. In a medium saucepan melt 1 cup (two sticks) of unsalted butter.
  2. Stir in 2 1/2 cups of brown sugar and 1 cup of light Karo syrup.
  3. Add 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, and mix well.
  4. Cook over medium-high heat until it reaches a boil. Stirring continuously, boil for 2 mins.
  5. Remove caramel from the heat and stir in 1 tsp. of vanilla.
  6. Pour caramel over corn puffs and stir until all the pieces are covered with caramel.
