Chicken Fried Rice Ingredients
- Chicken Breasts: Use skinless and boneless chicken breast and cut up into bit size pieces.
- Soy Sauce: An authentic Chinese sauce that adds so much flavor to the dish. I prefer to use low sodium soy sauce.
- Vegetable Oil: Used to cook the chicken and you can substitute with your favorite cooking oil.
- Long Grain White Rice: This is a great way to use up some leftover rice.
- Yellow Onion: I prefer the sweet flavor of the yellow onion. But you can use any onion that you like.
- Garlic: Fresh mince garlic always is the best. But as a little time saver you can use this Minced Garlic in a jar.
- Ground Black Pepper: Adds so much flavor to the dish and can be adjusted to your liking.
- Peas and Carrots: I prefer to use dice frozen peas and carrots, but you can use fresh if you like.
- Eggs: Make sure to just lightly beat the eggs and not over cook them.
- Green Onion: Adds the perfect amount of flavor and adds a beautiful color when serving.
How To Make Chicken Fried Rice
- In a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, add vegetable oil and minced garlic. Saute for 1 minute stirring occasionally. Then, add 1 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce, black pepper, and cubed chicken. Stir occasionally and cook for 4-5 minutes or until chicken is lightly browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan or wok, add sesame oil and heat up. Then, add onion, peas, and carrots and saute for 3-4 minutes or until onions are translucent.
- In the same pan move cooked vegetables to one side of the pan. Then, add lightly beaten eggs on the other side. With a spatula, scramble the eggs until they are still slightly runny. Then combine eggs with the cooked vegetables and stir and continue to cook until eggs are completely cooked.
- Add cooked rice, cooked chicken, and soy sauce to the pan. Stir until completely combined and the chicken is reheated. Turn off heat, add sliced green onion and stir until combined.
- Serve while hot. Enjoy!
Ways To Change It Up
What of the great things about this simple Chinese dish. Is that you can change up the ingredients to customize it to your taste. Here are a few fun ideas to make it the best-fried rice recipe.
- The Meat: One of the easiest ways to change it up is by changing the meat. Some of the more traditional meats to add are ham, beef, and shrimp. But you can also make this a vegetarian dish and take out the protein and replace it with kimchi, vegetables, or pineapple.
- The Rice: My favorite way to make this recipe is with long-grain white rice. But if you are looking for a healthier option you can substitute brown rice or quinoa.
- Vegetables: Add more of your favorite vegetables to create a bowl of more robust rice. Some popular options are baby corn, snap peas, broccoli, red pepper, mushrooms, and water chestnuts.
Tips For The Best Fried Rice
- Don’t over cook it: This is one of those dishes that tastes so much better when the vegetables have a little bit of crunch to them.
- Use Cold Rice: Cook the rice ahead of time and let it completely cool down. This is a great recipe to use up leftover rice.
