How to make In-N-Out’s “secret sauce”

In-N-Out has a “secret sauce” that they put on their animal style burgers and it is so dang good. I could literally eat this sauce on everything! It’s sweet and tangy and takes this Easy Copycat In-N-Out burger to the next level. In a small bowl add mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, and sugar, Mix well to combine and set aside.

How to sauté onions

Next, you are going to sauté the onions to top your Double-Double Animal Style Cheeseburger. The flavor from these grilled onions is so delicious and adds so much flavor to your In-N-Out cheeseburger. Start by finely chopping your onion. In a small skillet on medium-high heat, add your butter and chopped onions. Stir onions occasionally until well browned. Once onions start to sizzle and look dry, add 1 Tbsp. water and stir. Continue cooking until water evaporates and onions look dry again. Repeat this process 2-3 times until onions become soft and dark brown. Transfer to a small bowl and set aside.

How to cook In-N-Out “Animal Style” cheeseburgers

In-N-Out’s “Animal Style” cheeseburgers are so much better than a regular cheeseburger. One of the differences in their regular burgers and their animal style burgers are how they are cooked. Start by dividing your ground beef into four 2 oz. patties (a little larger than your bun) and keep them about 1/4 inch thick. Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper to taste. You will then place your beef patties in a large skillet on medium-high heat and cook until well browned and crusty on the first side. Add 1 Tbsp. yellow mustard to the raw side of your patty and flip patty over. Continue to cook until burger is fully cooked through. Add a slice of American cheese and let it melt, then top burgers with grilled onions. While your hamburgers are cooking, spread butter on your hamburger buns and gill them in a large skillet until they are toasted.

How to assemble your cheeseburger

Start by spreading 1 Tbsp. of the secret sauce on top of your grilled bottom bun. Add 4 pickles, 1 slice of tomato, lettuce, and then add both of your meat patty’s followed by the top bun. Serve alongside shoe string French fries and extra secret sauce for dipping. This will be a burger that your family will request, I promise!
