Who doesn’t love a warm delicious homemade cinnamon roll? I sure do, but I’ll be honest, I don’t make them very often because of how much time they take to make. I am all about quick and easy dessert recipe, and this cinnamon roll cake is just that. It has the flavor of my favorite Cinnabon cinnamon roll, but in a moist cake form. One of my favorite things about this homemade cake recipe, is I usually have all the ingredients on hand when I want to make it. A homemade vanilla cake batter, with a buttery cinnamon sugar topping swirled throughout the cake, and then topped with a cream cheese glaze. This cake tastes just like a warm ooey gooey warm Cinnabon cinnamon roll, it’s that good.
Ingredients for cinnamon roll cake with cream cheese glaze
- Flour
- Granulated Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Salt
- Baking Powder
- Milk
- Eggs
- Vanilla
- Unsalted Butter
- Cream Cheese
- Powdered Sugar
How to make the best homemade cinnamon roll cake
- Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9×13 inch cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl whisk together flour, white granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder.
- Add milk, eggs, and vanilla to flour mixture. Using a hand or stand mixer, mix until just combined.
- Slowly stir in melted butter and mix until just combined. *Be careful not to over mix batter or your cake will become dense*
- Pour batter into prepared baking pan and set aside.
- In a medium size mixing bowl combine softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour until well combined.
- Drop spoonful’s of filling evenly over cake batter.
- Using the end of a knife, marble the filling into the batter. *Be sure to keep the filling from getting too close to the edge of the pan, or the brown sugar will crystalize too much*
- Place cake into a preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted.
- While cake is baking make the glaze by mixing softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk and, vanilla until it becomes smooth and creamy.
- Remove cake from oven and drizzle glaze evenly over warm cake.
- Serve cake warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
Tips for making the best cinnamon roll cake
- I like to grease my baking pan with vegetable shortening or line baking pan with parchment paper. This will keep the bottom from becoming too brown.
- Batter will be thicker than a regular cake mix.
- Be careful not to over mix your batter or it will become dense. You just want to mix the ingredients until just combined.
- Be careful not to get the brown sugar filling too close to the edge of the pan. It will crystalize when baking.
Can I add nuts to my cake?
Of course you can! If you would like to add chopped walnuts or pecans, add them to the brown sugar and cinnamon filling and sprinkle some on top of the cake if desired.

- 1 cup powdered sugar

- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
