If your family is like mine they love Sloppy Joe’s and I love to make them because they are so easy to make. So I decided to turn them into a casserole. Which combines the heartiness of the ground beef with a layer of crunchy tater tots and gooey cheese. This is the perfect meal for a busy family on the go any night of the week.

One of my favorites sides with this casserole is my Instant Pot Corn On The Cob. When I add these two together I never hear any complaints from the dinner table.

Can I Use Manwich?

Personally, I like the flavor of my sauce better than Manwich sauce. It has just the right amount of spice and I love the fresh veggies in it. But, if you are in a pinch and don’t have time to make the homemade sauce you can use Manwich. Just brown the ground beef and add the Manwich and cook per the can directions. Then skip steps 2, 3, and 4 in the recipe.

Tips For Making Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole

  • Use fresh cheese and not pre-shredded cheese. Brick cheese melts and tastes so much better.
  • To make it a more complete meal. You can add different vegetables to the casserole. Some of my favorites are corn, green beans, peas and carrots. It is OK to use fresh or frozen vegetables. Simply add them in after you have browned and drained the ground beef. Then cook them for 2-3 minutes.
  • Take the time to lay the tots out evenly. Not only does it look prettier, but it allows them to cook evenly. So they are all golden brown and crispy. Nobody likes soggy shredded potatoes.
  • You can either use the regular tater tots or the crowns / discs. I prefer the regular ones, because it makes for a more filling meal.
