How To Make The Best Homemade Salsa In The Blender
- In a food processor or blender, add tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, cumin, salt, black pepper, sugar, and lime juice.
- Blend until you reach your desired consistency. Add more salt and pepper to taste and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
How Do I Store This Homemade Salsa
This blender salsa can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container (like these glass jars) for up to 3 days from making.
Homemade salsa can also be easily stored in the freezer if you want to extend the shelf life. Store it either in an airtight container or a Ziploc bag for up to 2 months and when you decide to use it, simply thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.
Can I Make This Homemade Salsa Recipe Ahead Of Time?
Absolutely! You can make it in advance if stored in the refrigerator, or you can make it a few weeks in advance by storing it in the freezer until ready to use.
Despite being able to make this homemade salad ahead of time, if you really want a restaurant-style tasting salsa, then I advise that you actually enjoy it freshly made for maximum flavor.
Is This Blender Salsa Appropriate For Canning?
Unfortunately, itโs not. This recipe doesnโt involve cooking your ingredients on the stovetop or water bathing the salsa in a boiling water canner or similar setup. You need your salsa to have followed these processes to prevent the potential growth of bacteria for the duration of storage.ย
What Can I Serve With Homemade Salsa?
Here are some of my favorite things to serve with blender salsa:
- Grilled chicken breasts like these Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken breasts;
- Any grilled meat like fish or pork chops;
- Tacos (like these Grilled Chicken Street Tacos) and most Mexican-based dishes;
- Crispy tortilla chips and guacamole; or
- A simple and light salad.
Tips For Making This Homemade Salsa Recipe
- When preparing your jalapeno pepper, itโs always a good idea to wear disposable gloves (like latex gloves). The gloves will protect the skin on your hands from burning or reacting to the jalapeno juices. But you still need to remember to avoid touching your face!
- While Iโve removed the ribs and seeds from the jalapeno pepper, you can opt to leave them in if you are a lover of heat in your food.
- Dicing the salsa ingredients finely does help to provide a smooth salsa but donโt get too caught up on this since your blender will do most of the heavy lifting.
- The lime juice added to this blender salsa provides a fresh citrusy flavor but will also help to keep your salsa from browning. You may need to add in some additional lime juice if you intend storing the salsa instead of using it up immediately.
- For an extra kick of heat, consider using canned tomatoes such as Ro-tel Tomatoes.
