This quick & Easy homemade breadsticks with parmesan recipe will satisfy your carb craving with just one delicious bite! These breadsticks are soft, fluffy, delicious, and can easily be made in less than an hour. You really canโ€™t go wrong!

Breadsticks have always been one of my favorite side items. In my house, any time we have a pasta dish for dinner, we make breadsticks to go along with it. These Quick and Easy Homemade Breadsticks with Parmesan are my go-to for a busy weeknight. You typically donโ€™t see โ€œquickโ€ and โ€œyeast: in the same bread recipe, but this homemade breadstick recipe is an exception to that rule! With a short rise time, you can have these delicious breadsticks made in under an hour.

I typically dread making any type of bread because of all of the waiting around and the kneading, but these breadsticks arenโ€™t difficult to make at all! I actually enjoy making a batch of them to go with our dinner. First, you will mix your water, sugar, and yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes. While that is sitting, you can mix together your parmesan and spices. Then you will add your sugar and flour to the yeast and mix for five minutes in your stand mixer, then let it sit for 5 minutes. Spread your dough onto melted butter, sprinkle with seasonings, and cut into strips. Thatโ€™s all that there is to it! Once you have finished those steps, your breadsticks are ready to go into the oven and bake for less than 15 minutes.

What to Serve/Pair with your Easy Homemade Breadsticks with Yeast

These breadsticks are the perfect side to any pasta dish! One of my favorites to pair with these parmesan breadsticks is this Crock Pot Italian Sausage Penne Pasta. The bread is extra tasty when you dip it in the sauce. If you prefer white sauce instead of red, pair your breadstick with this Instant Pot Chicken Alfredo Pasta. The creamy alfredo mixed with the soft breadsticks makes the perfect comfort meal.

If you arenโ€™t having a pasta meal but still want the sauce to go along with your homemade breadsticks, serve them with a side of marinara sauce and a side of alfredo sauce for dipping.

Storage & Leftovers

While these homemade breadsticks are best enjoyed fresh, you can also save any leftovers. These breadsticks store the best at room temperature. You will want to either tightly wrap them or put them into a sealed, air-tight container. They will last for up to 2 days. To reheat leftover breadsticks, you can wrap them in foil and heat them in the oven on 350 for about 15 minutes. If you are short on time, you can heat them in the microwave, but make sure that you put a wet paper towel over them so that they donโ€™t lose their moisture. No one wants a dry breadstick! Heat them in 30 second increments until they are the perfect temperature for you to enjoy.

Homemade Breadstick FAQs

Will the breadstick dough really rise enough in just 5 minutes?

Yes, believe it or not, for these breadsticks the dough only needs a few minutes to rise! Stirring it for 5 minutes and then letting it sit for 5 minutes will get your bread dough perfectly ready to bake. Youโ€™ll love the soft, fluffy consistency of these breadsticks!

Can I use shredded parmesan instead of grated parmesan?

For this recipe, youโ€™ll want to stick to grated parmesan. It mixes really well with the consistency of the spices and really gives the breadsticks some great flavor.

Do I need to use Rapid Rise yeast?

You can use Rapid Rise yeast if you would like to, but any kind of active dry yeast will work for these homemade breadsticks.

Will the melted butter make the outside of my breadsticks too brown?

No, the melted butter wonโ€™t make them too brown. You do want your breadsticks to be a golden shade of brown on the outside. As long as you donโ€™t over bake them they will stay soft and will be the perfect shade of golden brown.
