If you’re craving a cozy, homemade dessert that feels like a warm hug, this classic peach cobbler is exactly what you need. Made with fresh, juicy peaches tossed in just the right mix of sugars and cinnamon, it’s baked under a buttery, golden crust that’s both tender and flaky. The best part? It’s surprisingly easy to make from scratch, with simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Whether you’re serving it up for a family gathering, a weekend treat, or a holiday dessert, this peach cobbler delivers all the flavors of summer in every bite — especially when topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can’t go wrong with this homemade peach cobbler!

Making this classic peach cobbler is simpler than it looks, and the end result is totally worth it. You’ll start by tossing fresh sliced peaches with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon, and cornstarch—this helps the fruit get soft and syrupy while it bakes. While the peaches are in the oven, you’ll whip up the cobbler topping by mixing dry ingredients with cold, grated butter and a splash of boiling water to form a rustic, biscuit-like dough. Once the peaches have softened, you’ll spoon the dough right over the warm filling, sprinkle it with a cinnamon-sugar topping, and pop it back in the oven until the crust is golden brown and baked through. Serve it warm, and don’t skip the scoop of ice cream—it takes this dessert to the next level.

What to Serve/Pair with the Best Peach Cobbler Recipe

My favorite way to serve peach cobbler is warm, with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top—the cold, creamy texture pairs perfectly with the warm, spiced fruit and buttery crust. If you want to switch it up, try it with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, or even a dollop of Greek yogurt for a slightly tangy twist.

There are plenty of easy ways to customize this peach cobbler recipe based on what you have on hand. If fresh peaches aren’t in season, you can use canned (drained) or frozen (thawed and patted dry) peaches instead. You can also add a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for some extra warmth. For the topping, try mixing in oats or chopped pecans for added texture and crunch. If you’re feeling adventurous, a handful of fresh berries mixed in with the peaches adds a fun, fruity twist.

Storage & Leftovers

Leftover peach cobbler can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, simply pop a portion in the microwave for about 30–60 seconds or warm it in the oven at 350°F until heated through. If you want to keep the topping crisp, the oven method is your best bet. Cobbler can also be frozen—just let it cool completely, wrap it tightly, and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

Peach Cobbler Recipe FAQs

How do I make sure that my crust is fluffy?

Don’t over mix the topping. Once you’ve added the boiling water, if you overmix, the crust won’t be as fluffy.

Should I use cold butter or room temp?

Use cold butter in this peach cobbler – it will make your crust fluffier.

How do I know that my peaches are ripe enough to use?

You can tell if a peach is ripe by giving it a gentle squeeze. If the peach has a little give to it then it is ripe. If it’s hard it is not quite ripe yet. Ripe peaches also give off a sweet aroma!

Can I freeze cobbler filling?

Homemade peach cobbler is a classic Fall dessert, but I love to enjoy this dessert anytime of the year. To freeze cobbler filling simply peel and slice peaches. Add peaches, lemon juice, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch to a large ziplock bag. Give the bag a good shake to combine all the ingredients and lay the ziplock bag flat in your freezer. When your ready to bake the cobbler, thaw peach filling in the fridge. Dump peaches and all liquid in baking dish and proceed with the recipe as written.
