What Make This The Best Alfredo Sauce?

There are so many reasons that this is the best Alfredo sauce ever. Maybe it is because it is one of the most saved recipes on the blog. Maybe it is because this is one of those recipes that none of my kids complain about at dinner. But, I think it is because it is so easy to make and that it has an amazing creamy flavor. It is a restaurant quality recipe that can be put together with just a few simple ingredients.

Some of my favorite things to make with this sauce is Homemade Bread Sticks or Garlic Knots. I love to wipe up the leftover sauce on my plate with them. If you like creamy pasta recipes you should also check out my Creamy Mozzarella Shrimp Pasta. I will leave you begging for more.

Alfredo Sauce Ingredients

  • Heavy Cream – If you would like to make this a little bit lighter. You can substitute this with half and half.
  • Parmesan Cheese – Make sure to use fresh grated Parmesan Cheese and not the stuff in the can.
  • Garlic – I love to use fresh garlic. But, when I am in a hurry I love to used this Minced Garlic. It saves so much time and then my hands don’t smell like garlic for days.
  • Unsalted Butter – Make sure to use butter and not margarine. The butter combines better with the cream once melted.
  • Ground Black Pepper – You can play with this by adding more to flavor it to your liking.
  • Onion Powder & Garlic Salt – Don’t skip either of these spices. They add so much flavor and is the secret to making the sauce so good.
All the ingredients needed to make the best alfredo sauce.

How To Make Homemade Alfredo Sauce

When making this sauce my Cast Iron Skillet is my go pan. I love that I can use metal tongs or a metal whisk and not have to worry about it scratching the bottom of the pan.

  • Over medium heat melt butter in a large skillet or sauce pan. Add minced garlic and saute until golden brown. About 1-2 minutes.
  • While whisking slowly pour in heavy cream and incorporate into garlic and butter. Continue to whisk and add black pepper, garlic salt and onion powder. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • A little at a time add Parmesan cheese and whisk until completely melted. Lower heat to low and continue whisk for 3-4 minutes. Or cheese is completely melted and incorporated into the cream.
  • Serve while hot over your favorite pasta. Enjoy!

Tips For The Best Sauce

To ensure that your homemade Alfredo sauce comes out perfect every time. Here a few tips that I have found to make this the best. You won’t need to go out for pasta past after you master this thick and creamy sauce.

  • When adding the butter make sure not to burn it. This will greatly affect how this recipe tastes.
  • When adding in the heavy cream, slowly stir it in with a whisk. I like to use a whisk rather than a spatula or spoon. It helps incorporate everything a lot better and makes it smoother.
  • Parmesan cheese is what brings everything together and makes this so creamy and amazing. For best results use fresh grated Parmesan. Avoid using Parmesan cheese from a can or the powdered stuff. This will make the sauce turn out lumpy and gritty. When adding the cheese into the sauce. Sprinkle it in slowly and whisk the entire time. This will allow the cheese to melt better and avoid getting clumps in the sauce.
  • Don’t overheat the sauce or allow it to boil. This will cause the oils to separate from the sauce and it will cause your cheese to be clumpy. You can also remove the sauce from heat and add the Parmesan cheese in without heat if you are worried about boiling it.

How To Store Alfredo Sauce

  • Refrigerate – Any airtight container will work well to store the Alfredo sauce in. But I like to store mine in a Mason jar. It makes it easy to pour out a little at a time. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freezing – This is one of those recipes that does not freeze well. It causes the sauce to separate and is not the same after it has been frozen.
  • Reheating – The best way to reheat Alfredo sauce is in a saucepan on the stovetop. The key is to heat it over low heat and to whisk to incorporate everything back together. I do not recommend reheating this in the oven. It will cause the sauce to become oily and separate from its self. Once you have reheated the sauce, do not refrigerate or reheat again.

This recipe is super easy and delicious. I added some chicken and frozen peas and corn! What I did I season the chicken breast with salt, pepper, oregano, basil and parsley, I didn’t used fresh, because I was not cooking it me I was at work. I just Sauté the chicken and the carrots for about 5mins on high, then added to the pasta. Thank you!

I made this once before and it was SO GOOD. On my second time making it the cheese got clumpy, almost looks like dough… is there anything you would recommend to fix this?
