What to Serve/Pair with Your Soft & Chewy Red Velvet Brownies
These red velvet brownies with cream cheese frosting will pair well with just about anything! Because of the rich, warm flavor of the chocolate, I often like to use these as a dessert after a spicy entree, like this Bang Bang Chicken with Sweet & Spicy Chili Sauce.
If you are looking for another dessert to serve along with these brownies, go with something light and fruity. One of my favorites are these Easy Razzleberry Crescent Rolls.
Popular Substitutions & Additions
One of my favorite things about these brownies is that you can customize them for just about any occasion. Top them with themed sprinkles for any holiday! I love doing red and green sprinkles for Christmas and heart shaped sprinkles for Valentine’s Day.
For a little extra chocolate, fold a handful of white chocolate chips into your brownie mixture before baking. Yum! You could also sprinkle some on top of the frosting.
Storage & Leftovers
These red velvet brownies are very easy to store if you have any leftovers. Because of the cream cheese frosting, you will want to store them in the fridge. Make sure that they are in a sealed container. They will last up to 2 days if properly stored.
Red Velvet Brownie Recipe FAQs
What makes them red velvet instead of just chocolate?
Red velvet is a little more tangy than regular chocolate (note the vinegar in the recipe). The color also sets it apart.
How will I know that my brownies are done baking?
When you stick a toothpick in the middle of the brownies and it comes out clean, your brownies will be ready. Make sure that you don’t over bake your brownies. You don’t want them to dry out in the oven.
Do I need to take the brownies out of the pan to let them cool?
Nope! Leave your brownies in the pan to let them cool. Place your pan on a wire rack so that they will cool evenly.
How long can these brownies stay out before needing to go into the fridge?
These red velvet brownies can sit out for up to two hours before needing to be refrigerated. If you need to leave them out longer, just hold off on icing them until you are ready to serve. The frosting is the part that needs to be refrigerated because of the cream cheese, so you can have it made and in the fridge.
