I don’t know about you, but I have tried SO many different bread recipes! There are so many of them that I just can’t seem to get right, or I don’t like how they turn out. After dozens of tries, I have found the perfect, simple bread recipe. This no knead Dutch oven bread recipe is super simple to make, and only requires a few minutes of prep work. It cooks perfectly in the oven and comes out with a flaky, delicious crust and a soft interior. This bread is versatile and can be served with just about anything!

To make this bread, you need flour, yeast, salt, and water. You probably already have all 4 of those ingredients in your kitchen! When you are ready to make your no knead Dutch oven bread, start by whisking together your flour, salt, and yeast, then add in hot water. Use a wooden spoon (I promise, you won’t want to use anything else – a wooden spoon works magic on this bread), stir until the flour is mixed in. The dough is going to look sloppy, but that is fine! Cover it with plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm spot for a couple of hours to rise. Once the dough is ready, go ahead and preheat your oven. You will want to put the Dutch oven in while it is preheating so it will warm up. While that is heating, put your dough onto a flour covered counter and use a dough scraper to turn it into a ball. Use parchment paper to flip it over and cut a couple of slits into the top – I usually cut an ‘X’. Now your dough is ready to bake! Put it into the dutch oven with the lid on and let it bake for 30 minutes. You’ll want to take the lid off after that and let it bake for an extra 10 minutes – this is what makes the crust nice and crisp! After that, all you have to do is let your easy Dutch oven bread cool and it will be ready for you to enjoy!

Popular Substitutions & Additions

While there’s nothing that I would change about this dutch oven bread recipe (like I said, I’ve tried a lot of different bread recipes, and this one is just right), you can change up what you top this bread with. I brushed an olive oil and herb mixture on the crust once it was out of the oven, and that was delicious! No Knead Dutch Oven Bread FAQs

A dough scraper is like a spatula without a handle, and it is especially made for thick doughs, like this bread dough. There are a ton of options for dough scrapers on Amazon, or you can also find them at WalMart and Target.

Can I use self-rising flour in this Dutch oven bread recipe?

No, for this bread recipe, you will want to stick to all-purpose flour.

How will I know that the dough has risen enough?

There is no set amount of rising that your dough should do, but you should be able to tell a clear difference. If you don’t think that it is rising enough, try putting it in a warmer spot.
