If your craving homemade donuts, but are short on time, take these biscuits throw them in the air fryer and enjoy a delicious warm flaky donut in minutes. I absolutely love homemade donuts, but I don’t like the fuss of frying them in oil or dealing with the mess. These air fryer donuts are healthier and easier than frying them in oil. These will become a family favorite in your home.
Ingredients for air fryer cinnamon sugar donuts
- Biscuit Dough: I like to use flaky jumbo biscuits from Pillsbury.
- Butter: Melt unsalted butter in the microwave before brushing or dipping your air fried donuts.
- Sugar: I use white granulated sugar for this recipe.
- Ground Cinnamon: Use more or less to taste.
How to make air fryer donuts
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 360F.
- Cinnamon Sugar: Combine cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish and set aside.
- Prep Biscuits: Separate biscuits and lay them out onto a flat surface. Using the base of a large pastry tip, a shot glass, a bottle cap, or anything that is 1 inch in diameter to cut the holes. Save the center to make donut holes.
- Air Fry: Spray the fry basket with coconut or olive oil spray. Place donuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket and bake at 360 F for 5-6 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Coating donuts: While donuts are baking, melt butter in the microwave. Remove donuts from air fryer, immediately brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar to coat. Serve Immediately, enjoy!
- Donut Holes: To make donut holes, place in basket and air fry for 3-4 minutes. Roll in butter and coat with cinnamon sugar. Enjoy!
Optional Toppings
- Maple Glaze: Stir together 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 5 tablespoons maple syrup. Dip warm donuts in glaze and allow to set.
- Maple Bacon: Use maple glaze on top and sprinkle with crispy bacon bits.
- Vanilla Glaze: Stir together 6 Tbsp. melted butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 4 Tbsp. hot water. Coat warm donuts and allow glaze to harden before serving.
Tips and tricks for making donuts
- To cut the center of the donut you just need something small and round. If you don’t have a biscuit cutter you can use a large pastry tip, shot glass, medicine measuring cup, or a bottle cap.
- Don’t throw away the donut holes. Place donut holes in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes, dip in melted butter, and coat in cinnamon sugar.
- These air fryer donuts are best served the day of. If you have leftovers place them in an air tight container for up to two days. Pop them in the microwave or air fryer for a few seconds to warm them up.
